A thinner cutting edge and thicker top edge give these blades a T-shape profile that moves chips away from the cut and reduces friction for fast cutting. Carbide-Tipped Cutoff Blades The carbide tip brazed onto these blades is more wear resistant than high-speed steel.

Jun 30,  · I'm certainly no expert as I just started using a lathe myself, but what you're describing sounds like the machine or tool is being pushed too hard. I'm using a very good mini-lathe and get great results with aluminum regardless of depth of cut and feedrate. With SS, my best finish is at around rpm with" " depth of cut.

Aug 06,  · On any particular lathe the workable depth of cut as was said is dependent on material, workholding, tool, feedrate, spindle RPM, available power, etc. Lots of variables. On my 10 HP 17" Voest which is a moderately robust lathe intended for light production and tool room work I can take about 1/4" per pass at feed in mild steel.

Lathe cut records are cut manually, meaning the drop of the cutting needle is done by hand. This means that auto-players will not always track the beginning grooves. I'd highly suggest manually placing the tonearm in the groove. For the same reason, my records are not guaranteed to work with all jukeboxes, auto-return players, or turntables.
